Madeline Mathis brings passion for student success to IMSE

The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering is excited to welcome Madeline Mathis as its new academic advisor. In this role, she will work closely with undergraduate students to support their academic progress and professional development.

Mathis is part of a broader shift within the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering to a new academic advising model designed to enhance both academic and personal support for students.

“We expect that the high level of training that professional advisors receive, combined with their focus on academic advising, will lead to better student retention and success,” said Keith Hohn, associate dean for academic and administrative affairs.

Mathis, a 2020 K-State graduate with a bachelor’s degree in social science and a current MBA student, was drawn to the role by K-State’s strong sense of community, its commitment to student success, and the opportunity to collaborate with dedicated and passionate educators.

She was inspired to pursue academic advising by her own college experience and the impact of having someone in her corner who believed in her potential. She finds fulfillment in helping others discover their path, navigate challenges and celebrate milestones.

In previous roles, Mathis worked closely with faculty and students on curriculum coordination, scheduling, registration and graduation requirements. These experiences gave her a strong foundation in problem-solving, attention to detail and student advocacy — skills she is excited to bring to IMSE.

Her top priority as an academic advisor is building strong relationships with students and being a resource students feel comfortable relying on. She looks forward to helping them think strategically about their course planning, professional development and long-term goals.

Outside of work, she enjoys exploring local trails — especially the scenic paths of the Konza Prairie — and spending time outdoors with her two loyal companions: Blue, her energetic Australian shepherd, and Ember, her adventurous German shepherd. Whether hiking through the tallgrass or simply soaking up some sun, she finds being outdoors with her four-legged friends is what really makes her happy.
