Professional experience
Dr. Aarthi Kannan is a Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Researcher working with Dr. Suprem Das in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE). She previously worked as a Research Engineer at Sorbonne University in Paris, France. She worked as a research intern through Mitacs Research program at McMaster University, Ontario, Canada in October 2023. She obtained her PhD degree from SASTRA Deemed University, India, in August 2024. Aarthi earned her Master's of Technology in Medical nanotechnology and Bachelor's of Technology in Bioengineering from the same institution in May 2019.
Research
Dr. Kannan’s research primarily focuses on nanotechnology, particularly in materials science (hybrid and 2D nanomaterials) and electrochemical nanosensors for environmental and health applications. Currently, her research focuses on the development of nanomaterials, additive manufacturing, and electrochemical sensing for soil nutrients and environmental pollutant molecules in soil and water.
Academic highlights
Dr. Kannan was awarded the UGC-SJSGC fellowship to pursue her PhD in 2022. She was awarded the prestigious Mitacs-SICI Globalink research (Indo-Canadian) grant to pursue her research in 2023. She is the recipient of Fulbright Nehru Postdoctoral research fellowship in 2025.
